When I started reading 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens I wasn't really sure what to expect or whether this book would actually help me at all. The reason behind this was that I don't really think I knew very well what I searching for and I didn't think I needed anything either. Little did I know that reading this book actually came at the time that I needed it the most. The initial thought crossing my head was "Maybe this book will help me with school and give me tips on how to be a more successful student or something." Turns out I was completely wrong. This book doesn't reach out only to a specific aspect of your life. Instead, it targets your life as a whole and every single area that you could possibly imagine. I have faith that this book will help me in all the areas of my life that I was trying to fix on my own. This past semester had been a constant struggle filled with bedtimes at 3am, constant stress and an ever present feeling of unacomplishment when attempting to balance all the different activities and clubs I was in, along with school work, friends, and other things taking up space in my life. Over christmas, I had told myself that this year I was going to change. Fix everything that was not working as planned and take control of my life the best I could. And as cheesy as it may sound, I actually believe that the new year is a time of renewal and a major opportunity to step up and change. Of course, everyone knows the typical stereotype for New year's resolutions: they fail even before January is finished. But it doesn't necessarily have to be that way if you set up you goals the right way. "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" was what really gave me a reality check and made me question myself. How am I actually going to reach my goals? How was I planning to work out, improve my surfing, finish the production of the remaining songs for my album, keep up with the summer homework, work on my singing, and improve my math grade? Part II of the book was where I felt like I connected the most, especially when it mentioned habits 2 and 3.
