For the Villa Corintios Build taking place on September 10th as a cabinet we were responsible for developing the logistics and the organization of not only the members but also all the materials required, the transportation to the location, the supervising teacher sponsor, the communication with the community contact, as well as the organization of club members attending the build.
I created a document to help me get organized with all the information as well as a to-do list for the cabinet members and sign-ups. One problem we had, was that the tank was too big to fit through the door of the bus, so I managed to get a club member to provide us with his dad's pickup truck and drive the tank to the build.

Working on my debut EP is an extremely rewarding experience and with so many opportunities for growth for me. Every time I go to the studio I feel like I learn something new, either from something Andre the producer tells me about production and the whole process of mixing and mastering music or as simple as tips he gives me for recording and giving it my all in the process of studio singing.
In this session I went in to hear what Andre had done with my last song "Picture Frames" and check over the arrangements he had added so far and to begin recording the third song "Fades Out". I was super excited for this session because I have only recently begun working with Andre and this was the first time I was going to witness what he had done with my music. At the beginning of the session he sat me down to hear the whole song. He warned me that it still wasn't completely finished and that there were still some details left to add, yet even through this I was amazed. The song sounded exactly how I had envisioned it in my head! I gave him some quick feedback for the ending chord and the volumes of separate instruments, yet overall I was quite surprised with the outcome thus far. This made me very happy and confident considering much of what makes a song successful is the communication between the artist and the producer. I'm really grateful that Andre and I understood each other well and he knew how to apply my musical intentions perfectly! We spent the rest of the session working on "Fades Out". This song is truly one of my two favorites on the album. We explored switching up some of the sections and adding some breaks to add more variety. He suggested an idea with several vocals on the end of the bridge towards the beginning of the chorus which I found very interesting. I'm excited to see where it goes from here. For NebLima, (a club I founded with the goal of alleviating water scarcity through the use of fogcatchers) we find ourselves in the midst of planning the logistics and getting everything ready for our first build. This build implies building our first ever fogcatcher within school grounds in order to get the experience and have all club members collaborate and learn how to properly install a fog net.
This Saturday I went along with the rest of the NebLima cabinet to SODIMAC in order to get all of those materials we needed. This process took us a total of about 2 - 3 hours. The hard part wasn't finding the materials we needed to buy, but rather all the math and calculations that went into deciding the right measurements and amounts at the cheapest price possible but still keeping very good quality. We even had to use trigonometry to figure out specific measurements based on the spacing of the cables from the bottom of the fogcatcher base. It got exhausting after a while, keeping a super exact inventory spreadsheet on Andrew 's (treasurer) phone and counting all the small pieces. One problem we had for example, was figuring out that they didn't have a specific pipe extension we had found last time. After searching for a good 30 min trying to match different to find a good pipe piece we finally found one that worked with a specific hose connection Leon managed to find. Beginning my CAS experience I feel isn’t much of a beginning, considering that I’ve been doing CAS throughout the past years. Yet I think this is a good opportunity to start going more in depth with the reflection and documentation piece of those activities I already form part of. I’ve looked into these different activities and classified them into what I know are the 3 CAS categories: Creativity, Activity, and Service. I currently form part of two clubs at school, one honor society, and I funded and currently run a club as well. I’m also very devoted to music since it’s one of my most treasured passions; I really enjoy singing, songwriting, and performing in school assemblies whenever I’m asked. The main reason of why I have been doing CAS all these years is because I truly consider it something very important to me. I’m involved in these activities because I feel engaged and filled with purpose whenever I do each one and I love doing them. Next up I’ll describe them in order of CAS categories.
For the creativity piece there is Tri-M Honor Society (Modern Music Masters) which is basically an honor society for musicians who are devoted to bring music and benefit the community. I also form part of cheer for ICC every year. I also participate in the ICC cheer every year and was captain freshman year. |
